Northern Inland Pony Express Round 1 Coolatai
Dad and I packed the bike up on Saturday and drove to Inverell for the night. It was a chilly night and an even colder morning. It wasn’t a long drive the next morning so didn’t have to get out of bed super early. It was a super foggy drive out to Coolatai with heavy cloud, we didn’t think we were going to see the sun at all throughout the day but it made an appearance about 11am and warmed things up but by 2-3pm is was getting cold again.
I was super excited because there were actually other girls riding the pony express this time. So much better having some good competition out there. The other girls were solid riders.
The track was prime. They had rain the day before and had to cut out a section of the track because it was too boggy but the track was excellent and there was absolutely no dust, just lots of mud. I got off second on the start after taking a couple of kicks to get my bike started. I was holding and stretching my second place but then had a hard crash and flooded my bike. It took me a while to get going again and I dropped back to third. I managed to get back into second at one of the technical hill climbs and stayed in second for the rest of the day. There were about 5 hard hill climbs on the track, which took a bit of skill and concentration but I managed them all.
I have only been back on the bike for about a month, so my fitness still isn’t where it should be and I was feeling it. I made some silly mistakes because of fatigue and I’m feeling it today. My muscles are so sore. Hopefully I can get my fitness stronger over the next month ready for AORC at Kyogle on the 19th and 20th of July.
Thank you to all the officials, the land owners, the canteen ladies and all the marshals and people that made the day possible. Thanks to the girls for the strong competition.
A big tanks also goes to Coffs KTM.
